My True Fit was recently asked by USA Today what we thought were the most important factors which affect the price and prestige of premium jeans. Romney Evans, CEO of My True Fit, gives fantastic insight into the "4 F's" which you should consider when making your selection.

Fit.
  • The most prestigious jeans brands flatter different body types. Women often judge jeans based on how they look on their hips. Once a designer finds a fit that conforms well on a certain body type, a premium can be charged solely based on fit.
Fabric.
  • The fabric quality of a garment is tightly linked to design and fit. Superior fabric, finishing and stretch distinguish premium denim jeans from those that are mass produced. Fabrics used to create designer jeans are primarily imported from Japan and Italy, and are significantly more expensive than fabrics used in the production of basic denim jeans. A combination of domestic wash and a finishing process makes jeans softer and gives them a better form and feel. Innovative stretch fabrics, such as Elastane, Polyurethane and Xfit Lycra, also provide jeans with better elasticity and shape.
Finishing.
  • Premium jeans undergo labor-intensive treatments, washes and finishing work to give them characteristics such as whiskering, fading, tearing and signature back-pocket stitching. Skilled craftsmen use belt sanders, sandblasters, hammers, metal brushes and pumice stones to create looks they hope give the jeans character and style.
Fashion Forward.
  • Premium designer jeans have high price points, which keeps distribution exclusive to luxury department and specialty stores frequented by those with high disposable income and, often, cutting-edge tastes. Premium denim brands often become popular fashion items when celebrities are photographed wearing them. Each jeans brand is identified by a distinctive signature back-pocket design that is often seen as a status symbol.
